This is what I have so far. When I was little I had a cat that would wait in the dark hallways of our house and attack when you least expected it. It scared me to pass the hallways of the house because I never knew when she would pounce. I expounded on that memory by giving some of the power back to the little girl in the image and showing the exaggerated conflict that occurs in a child's mind when they have a fear.
This is already shaping up to be a fantastic piece! I love the story and the composition. I would just work on tightening and softening some of the details and values. The cat's paw in particular is giving me pause (no pun intended ;-). I feel like there might be a little too much distinction between the overshadowed part of the cat's leg, and the end of it's paw; the cast shadow of the wall seems to cut it in half.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Sarah said. The distinction between shadow and light on that leg is such a harsh straight edge. I'd try softening it up a bit. And I realize that this isn't finished, but don't forget to add whiskers on the cat! Some blush color on the girl's cheeks and a pattern on her shirt could be cute too.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I like the idea. So outlines will be removed eventually right? I think the drawing of the cat is great, but I would probably look for some warm colors in the shadow so that it can have some variety and warmth to it. And the bear looks really nice. It's my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to this - my family has a crazy cat that will bite you when you stop petting her. :) Anyways, I love the idea of this, especially the teddy bear fighting alongside the little girl. I would just tinker with the perspective a little bit - it feels like the girl and teddy bear are caught in a weird spot where they are looking at the wall and the cat at the same time, rather than either peeking around the wall at it or hiding. Maybe just scoot them back more to the right. :) Love it!
