Final Project - Hanna Kwon

It's a children's book cover illustration that I came up with.
It's called, A Whale that Swallows Tears
Thanks!

  1. This cover is delightfully whimsical! I especially love the painterly texture on the belly of the large whale. However, I am curious; is this the front cover or the entire book jacket? If it is the entire book jacket, the title should probably be on the right-hand side so that it is on the front cover. :-)

  2. I almost want a few more highlights on the second whale and the waves just so they pop a little more. But I love all the soft textures on the first whale.

  3. I can see this as a book cover :) The title doesn't throw me on the left because you're following the asian layout of a book instead of the western way. I agree with briton that there needs more highlights or more contrast in the saturation of the colors. I feel like right now the colors have all been desaturated to the same level. I like the second whale but I got a little confused with the heart being pink and in the shape it is as well as being close to the mouth. I thought it was opening its mouth at first because the pink looked like gums and the way the water fell almost looked like the opening of a throat to me. I don't know if anyone else saw that. Maybe just move the heart down more so that it isn't so close to the mouth? or change the pink so that it doesn't look like gums. That is just a suggestion though. I do like the whimsy of the whole piece though!

  5. I love it! The colors in particular are very appealing, and I like the reserved cool colors to contrast with the pink! I, like Sarah, am a little confused by the way the cover is laid out. It seems like it would make sense to have the full illustration of the whale on the same side as the text, so when people glance at the front cover, they can see the title of the book as well as the beautifully rendered whale. Either way, I'm not sure how the cover folds, but I guess the main thing is just to make sure that when it does fold, you avoid unwanted symmetry and tangents. Super beautiful piece though!
