Ashley Smith - Final

This isn't done yet but here it is so far.

Context: I tried to make airplanes out of cardboard when I was little. My dad was in the Air Force so I went to a lot of air shows and toured a lot of airplanes and loved the idea of flying. I used all the Scotch tape in the house to fashion some cardboard wings and then tried to jump off the balcony when I was 6 or 7 years old. Thankfully my sister stopped me, but I kept building things out of boxes.

  1. It looks really cute and I love it. I think I just wish it was a bit more finished and the plane was more obviously made of cardboard.

  2. I think this piece is so cute! I love the style! I think one thing that could help is push the values more. You have a couple darks in there but the majority of the painting is almost a mid tone. I feel like the mailbox gets lost. I can't wait to see it done!

  3. The zig-zag line of the picket fence is great - it adds so much energy to the picture! And I also really like the use of wood texture on the house - though perhaps I'd erase it from the pillars. Regardless, this looks wonderful so far - great colors, great energy!

  5. I love your style! The texture on the bushes is my favorite. One thing that you might want to look at is that it feels like overcast because light is not bright or warm enough. For example, I would probably warm up the sidewalk, for it takes such big part of the overall feeling.

  7. I feel like this piece really does as intended--captures your childhood memory to share with us. One thing I noticed though (and I don't know if this was intended), but it looks like your perspective on the sidewalk goes to a much higher horizon line than the house does. Consider finding a vanishing point that aligns with the horizon line used by the house? Impressive piece though!
