Katie LaFontaine: Memory Illustration

I used to fall asleep in sunspots on my living room carpet all the time. Whenever I woke up I'd find that all my pets had curled up around me to enjoy the afternoon nap. It's a really fond memory of mine and I had a great time illustrating it!

  1. Beautiful! I love the attention to detail in the foreground and background that adds context without distracting from the main focus of the painting. There is something about the positioning of legs that feels a little awkward though, I can't put my finger on it. Also the rear end of the dog seems a little bit high, though I think you could get away without anyone noticing.

  2. I want to say that I feel like this is the illustration that perfectly fits with our assignments topic. I think I can tell that it is the illustration piece of your childhood memory! This is just a (very very )personal suggestion, I don't mind seeing the slight indication of fur texture for a dog. Just few furs shining out. I like the color of the light that you chose too! have a great summer!!

  4. It's really pretty and I can't stop looking at it! It so perfectly fits the project too. I think the legs should maybe be closed though. There is just something funky going on there.

  5. This is so adorable; I love the lighting and mood that you created in this piece. My only suggestion would be to work on the cat on the left; it kind of feels "copy-pasted" next to the girl. I think just tinkering with the shadows would help it feel more in-context with the rest of the piece.
